Ossiphidia was made at the Cleveland site of the 2012 Global Game Jam. The theme for that year was this picture of the Ouroborus:
The game involves a mystical serpent (the Jörmungandr of Norse mythology) consuming the magical scales of its own body in order to extend its failing life. The game takes place on a trefoil knot and as the player loops around, fewer and fewer scales remain until they ultimately succumb to dissolution.
Red thorns act as obstacles and ensure that a large portion of the games played result in a negative score.
